#change11 Openness vs. openness
x28, x28's new Blog » change11, May 15, 2012
One of the main obstacles against one sense of openness is another sense of openness: In traditional peer reviewed journals, peers are open in ONE sense when they frankly give negative feedback. Of course this excludes openness in the OTHER sense, the sense of public accessibiity. Read more... Tue, 15 May 2012 19:47:09 +0000 [Comment]

In this week's article I recognized my "selves" #3 and #4 (participatory and asynchronous). But while Bonnie looks "beyond the traces and trails we leave behind", I am still grappling with the effect of the sheer mass of such traces. Read more... Mon, 07 May 2012 22:06:50 +0000 [Comment]

#change11 Definitory Power on MOOCs
x28, x28's new Blog » change11, Mar 05, 2012
While the publicity of the term "MOOC" is rapidly increasing, also the danger is growing that its original meaning and principles will be watered down. Everyone can call their endeavour a MOOC, no matter how much they are actually willing to let go their "controletti mentality". But we must bear that it's uncertain whose definition of MOOC will stick. Read more ... Mon, 05 Mar 2012 20:18:43 +0000 [Comment]

#change11 Community vs. Artefacts
x28, x28's new Blog » change11, Feb 27, 2012
I found it difficult to understand the idea of knowledge of a community. It helped me to think of a community of experts, of becoming like one, and of the continuum of actefacts exchanged among them. Read more ... Mon, 27 Feb 2012 23:59:55 +0000 [Comment]

#change11 Open Space Binary Participants?
x28, x28's new Blog » change11, Jan 21, 2012
Do open space participants either consent or vote with their feet/ walk away? If the open space is a group, this is probably true. In a network, it is different. Read more... Sat, 21 Jan 2012 21:00:05 +0000 [Comment]

#change11 Lower layers of connectivism?
x28, x28's new Blog » change11, Jan 10, 2012
In the beginning, connectivism was considered on three layers: neural, conceptual, and social/ external. What has become of the former two layers? For me this is a problem because I cannot grasp that societal knowledge is similarly residing in connections as individual knowledge. Read more... Tue, 10 Jan 2012 18:25:34 +0000 [Comment]

#change11 Slow Learning Visualized
x28, x28's new Blog » change11, Dec 05, 2011
Connectivism talks about conceptual connections of varying strength, and learning involves gradually strengthening connections. I visualize these slowly growing connections like ridges emerging from the ground, and I think the time lapse video of ebbing tide shows them nicely. http://www.flickr.com/photos/suraky/4230976574/ Mon, 05 Dec 2011 22:43:21 +0000 [Comment]

#change11 Decreasing Engagement in MOOCs
x28, x28's new Blog » change11, Nov 27, 2011
Course facilitators and critics are unsettled about the increasing drop-out rate in MOOCs. Being far from active this time myself, I want to share my speculations about the reason for this. Read more... Sun, 27 Nov 2011 21:00:13 +0000 [Comment]

#change11 Abundance for Diversity and Breadth
x28, x28's new Blog » change11, Nov 17, 2011
I think the main point for abundance is that it may foster diversity. Under certain preconditions, it offers the best chance to generate a true, authentic, random statistical kind of diversity which can finally lead to a representative, exemplary breadth of learning, because is destroys the illusion that one could still gain some comprehensive core knowledge, or some unbiased curated selection. #change11 Massiveness and Diversity

Can lacking massiveness be somehow compensated? For example, can the consequential lack of participants' diversity be compensated by a diversity of resources? I doubt this. Read more... Mon, 31 Oct 2011 20:39:44 +0000 [Comment]

Responding to Rita Kop who said in a comment at Tony Bates' blog: "Perhaps the decision to leave out the learning management system from the Change MOOC has not been a wise one". I once supported this decision and I still do. Read more... Fri, 28 Oct 2011 19:48:03 +0000 [Comment]
