The question “Would it be helpful to translate knowledge with help of a symbolic, artificial language for better use of our information?” has a hidden presupposition in it. Behind this question is a view on information as an asset, as a possession. Another view is that information is endless, connected, and not a possession. To [...] [Link]

In this post I will relate Pierre Lévy’s ideas to the article “Suche nach der neuen Welt” of our Austrian newspaper “Der Standard” which starts with the sentence: “in 20 years, artificial intelligence will overtake human intelligence”. The article refers to the Singularity Summit 2011, which took place in October 2011 in New York. (The annual [...] [Link]

How important is it for the 21st Century University to have professors that are current? Do they understand some of the changes taking place? Learner, not lurker... #change11
onewheeljoe, learn, teach, repeat
I'm still captivated by apologies on the MOOC. Lately, I notice blog entries where participants label themselves "lurkers." While I understand the term as it relates to Internet culture and discussion boards, I read it as a form of apology or a caveat to informal, infrequent participation in this course which so often doesn't feel like a course. For my own part, my work in open courses ebbs and flows. At times I am a virtual version of the student who sits up front and raises his .... [Link]
