Making Slow Learning Concrete #change11
Clark Quinn, Learnlets, December 7, 2011.

It occurs to me that I’ve probably not conveyed in any concrete terms what I think the ‘slow learning’ experience might be like. And I admit that I’m talking a technology environment in the concrete instance (because I like toys)... The notion is that you might have more formal and informal goals, and the system would layer on information, augmenting your reality with extra information aligned to your interests and goals, making the world richer. It could and would help performance in the moment, but also layer on some concepts on top. [Comment]

Instructional Design - more of an Artist, less of an Architect
AK, Multilitteratus Incognitus
This week's Change11 topic on Slow Learning reminds me of discussions I've had with friends and colleagues about Instructional Design in general.  When I started my instructional design career officially and went to school to learn about ID, my university taught the Dick and Carey model. As part of the course my instructor, Mary Hopper, has us examining other models as well for our group projects and ADDIE, ASSURE, ARCS* and HPT models came up and we discussed them by .... Autonomy in a MOOC
jaapsoft2, connectiv
Jonas Bäckelin in his fantastic EducatorProphet01 mentions autonomy as an important part of identity of a student in a collective. Galileo’s Grandmother discusses the differences between group, community and  collective. She questions conclusions in Kop, Fournier, and Mak (A Pedagogy of Abundance or a Pedagogy to Support Human Beings? #change11 week 13 Slow Learning
John Kuti, feel do think
This week’s contribution  by Clark Quinn is on slow learning. The main finding in this area seems to be spaced repetition. Slow Learning & thoughts on competency based education
AK, Multilitteratus Incognitus
This week on Change11 our host facilitator is Clark Quinn author of Designing mLearning and of Mobile Academy. It's interesting. My initial exposure to Clark has been through twitter and through these two books.  I read Designing of mLearning as a potential text for a college level mLearning course (I like it for what it's worth) and I currently have the Mobile Academy on to to-read list on GoodReads*.  In any case the topic for .... Slow learning – learning while standing in the middle of your life #change11
svmoose, Inside Irene Gould's head
Slow Learning – I embrace it! I like the topic of this week and it reminds me of rhizomatic learning in a sense…. Clark Quinn says about Slow Learning: “The notion is what I call 'layered learning', where we don't send you away from your life to go attend a learning event, but instead layer [...] [Link] Tue, 06 Dec 2011 15:57:29 +0000 [Comment]

Ditch the GPS; Get Lost Instead
brainysmurf, 294 - Junct Blog, December 6, 2011.

I agree with ditching the GPS (in fact, I purposefully don't own one so that I can continue to practice my own ability to navigate and deal with unexpected situations such as construction, a lane closure or just plain old getting lost). If I'm going somewhere new, I prefer to Google the directions and study them a bit to figure out where I'm going, which route is likely to be the fastest, and what some alternate paths might be if I miss a significant turn. Then I print the large map and written driections to bring with me in the car but I focus on the real landscape, landmarks and signage. If it's a location I'm likely to return to, I'll keep the printed directions for next time and I might make notes on it about short-cuts or key landmarks that I've learned about on my journey. I guess I'm as much a self-directed driver as I am a self-directed [Comment]
