The other day, while I was on the train and on my way home I was reading the most recent Change11 blog posts. I was going to comment on each one of these blog posts individually, but I realized that there as a thread developing in each one that made them fit together pretty nicely.First, I read brainysmurf's "if you don't like messy learning don't play in the snow" post. Brainysmurf comments on Jon Dron's comment that MOOCs are "not easy, this .... [Link]

Mobile Language Learning - Call for papers
AK, Multilitteratus Incognitus
While looking up the most recent issue of Language Learning and Technology I came across their most recent call for papers. This time around the topic is mobile language learning, both topics I am interested in! I was wondering if there are any change MOOC participants out there who are interested in mLearning, and Language Learning to work as part of a collaborative research team on the theme :-)Here's the actual call for papers:There has been increased interest in .... Learning in a time of abundance

Setup for the Live Presentation: Three live sessions were held this week; two with Elluminate and one video COOLCast. For the first Elluminate session, I had no sound problems, but from what was said in the chat room, others did. In the second Elluminate session, I did not have any either, but Duval had difficulty [...] [Link]

Relationships with students in a student driven learning environment
Ashley, I Am One Of Those People!
Every year at McDowall at this time, past student come back and visit. It is not a compulsory thing but it is a bit of a tradition that has grown over the years. This is my third year at McDowall and in the past week, I have had 12 emails from students telling me that they are on holidays and can't come in and 10 student visits so far. The kids think that they are pretty cool and it is always great to see them.
This morning, I had a visit .... [Link]

suifaijohnmak, Learner Weblog
Practicing leadership in Online Game Community. This sounds interesting. I am not yet a fan in playing online game, so still a lot to learn, and try. Are you an online game player? What are your experiences in online leadership … Continue reading → [Link]

[Link]

Online learning & Stanford University
jupidu, ZML Didaktik / Innovative Learning Scenarios
Two times today I stumbled across online learning and the Stanford University. In his plog post Online education… Stanford University ends the war Bob Johnson describes the „official“ start of the Stanford Online High School. And later in the post he predicts that soon students will learn core educational points on their own time, online. [...] [Link]

Bryan Caplan Needs to Get Out More #change11
Andrew Neuendorf, Junct Blog
Bryan Caplan, who often presents himself as the paragon of reason and reasonableness, has written an incredibly illogical article about education called "The Magic of Education." Here, Caplan uses "magic" as a shorthand for "things he doesn't understand." This is a common trick for self-proclaimed reason-meisters to dismiss anything that involves more complexity than a land-line poll as "woo woo." Caplan mocks his own profession (he's an Economics professor, but I bet you guessed .... [Link]

Opening up sim creation - Clark Aldrich tells us how he does it.
George, EdTech - Insights
Today's #change11 MOOC session on building simulations was fascinating - hearing simulations designer Clark Aldrich tell us how simulations are created and designed.I should not be suprised that the process mirrored the design of learning, but it was refreshing to see these principles being expressed in novel ways. Aldrich started by stating that the goal of education is individualistic - with the intention to build competence and build conviction, through participation and practice, .... [Link]

#change11 Badges?
Lars Was, Lars Was
I came across Jaap’s article today, referring to the Mozilla Open Badges program and I must say I liked the idea of expressing your skills, your attendance to an online course, etc. Maybe badges aren’t the “definitive” way of assessment, but they could help figuring out new ways of evaluation. However, the real question is [...] [Link]

Attempting some structure for #change11 - some harder technology
brainysmurf,

This is cool, George. Thanks for giving me a reason to look closer at Symbaloo, which I'd heard of a few months ago and didn't give much thought. :) [Comment]
Does technology really empower learners to journey beyond just content?
brainysmurf,
222 - I Am One Of Those People!, November 30, 2011.
This is great, Ashley and I concur with Jaap as well. When I was a student in post-secondary education, we had to feed coins into a photocopier at the library to print hundreds of pages of research in order to take it home (probably a wild violation of copyright). We'd read it, scribble in the margins and then use a primitive computer to word process a paper of our own about it, print it on a dot-matrix printer (!) and hand it in for grading. Yay for internet in schools, I'm jealous! :) [Comment]
