Educational Projection: Supporting Distributed Learning Online
Stephen Downes,
Stephen's Web, March 16, 2011.
Slides, audio and video available. Abstract: With the development of the personal learning environment, the open online course, and informal learning outside the institution, teachers and professors may be wondering what they can do to support education in this new environment. In this talk we will examine the mechanisms educational providers and institutions can employ in order to project learning resources and services into the community and workplace where they are needed. The talk will focus first on the principles of educational projection, and then discuss practical mechanisms, such as cloud services, event amplification and content curation. [Comment]

The happy network, the fairy tale (part two) #cck11
jaapsoft2, connectiv
What happens to the happy people and the unhappy person? Do they dis-connect? Do the happy people go back to being happy again? Where does the unhappy person go? Why is s/he unhappy? Has s/he destroyed the happiness? My point with part one of this fairy tale was: in a network we want response, an [...] [Link]

Changing Roles of Educators (for CCK11)
Debbie Kroeker, Rethinking Learning and Technology
As an EAL educator to internationally-educated nurses who are scattered throughout rural Manitoba, I have been given no choice but to embrace technology as a way to reach them. If my dream could come true, education would be as networked as a Filipino BBQ. But, first, how has the role of the educator changed?Traditionally, educators stood at the front of the classroom and told students exactly what they needed to learn and dictated how they would learn it. Teachers were the experts on the .... [Link]

Networks are More Effective than Groups
Debbie Kroeker, Rethinking Learning and Technology
Photo by Stephen DownesWe are all aware of groups. They require unity, possibly through a vision statement or common goal. They are coordinated and often closed, sometimes requiring membership or cut-off points based on numbers. Think of sports teams, church groups, AA, Weight Watchers, or even your book club. Knowledge is distributed; it comes from a leader - a chairperson or a coordinator. Networks are a kind of group, but they are distinct in that they are defined by diversity. They are not .... [Link]

Instructional Designers Becoming Education Agents - #CCK11

<strong>PAPER 2</strong><br />
<br />
As a recent career change has placed me onto the path of an elearning instructional designer (ID) I find it difficult to know whether the role has changed or not for those that may have been doing it for more than 5 years. <br />
<br />
<br />
Personally, I don't believe the role itself is changing; however the techniques and tools to accomplish the role are ever changing. One description of an ID is that ".... [Link]

We’re the only people with a material interest in promoting RSS

In a nutshell, RSS (‘Really Simple Syndication’) is an excellent, non-proprietary filter. Given the huge demands on time imposed by information and correspondence overload, I’ve been trying to persuade colleagues to use RSS for years. RSS allows you to a) avoid having to subscribe to things by email, thus helping you to reduce the volume [...] [Link]

Connectivism and Connected Knowledge - CCK11
William, Creatividad e Inspiración Al día
This week, I started a free course on Connectivism and Connected Knowledge (#CCK11). On week 1 we work on the definition of Connectivism (what is). In some few words, "connectivism is the thesis that knowledge is distributed across a network of connections, and therefore that learning consists of the ability to construct and traverse those networks" OPENBLOCK1CLOSEBLOCK. It is a strange thought since it's easy to believe that knowledge is distributed but not so easy to understand how .... [Link]

I said,as an old user of delicious, that I have some strategies for tagging and tought about writting them down, so here they are (yes! I am very late!).The main point on how I came with these "strategies", is being able to find things back and for that is better when I tag extensively and at the same time I keep a consistent "body" of tags (I have~600).It depends on the ....
