Networked Blogs
Vanessa Vaile,
Facebook, March 8, 2011.
I saw an interesting post in the CCK11 Facebook group (you have to be logged into Facebook to view it) that said " if you add your blog to the Networked Blogs app, you can then syndicate it to auto-post to the group." You can find information about the Networked Blogs app on this page. It's a good idea - create a list of blogs and feed them into a Facebook group. The Connectivism Facebook group is itself a thing of interest, operating completely outside the scope of the course facilitators and course website. Given that this week's topic is power and control, we can ask how the existence of such a group impacts power relations in the course. [Comment]

Power and Authority in network learning #cck11
jaapsoft2, connectiv
What about power and information? I regard these two subjects power an authority as one, i.e. as connected. The Authorities is the government and people in power. In 1968/69 an anarchist movement called ‘Provo’ in the Netherlands provoked the power of the authorities. A person could be called an authority in a certain field of [...] [Link]

#CCK11 Network patterns, social networks and their impact on institutions

Relating to the sort of networks which are more resistant to cascade phenomena and are more sustainable, I would like to refer to this by Alan here on Connectivist Theory: “The particular virtue suggested by Stephen is that a distributed network may … Continue reading → [Link]

Progress and Learning in cck11
alan, Connectivism-2011 (per alQpr)
According to Stephen, if I achieve the following (conventional) standards of success: - fluency with and use of a certain vocabulary - exposure to and familiarity with a standard body of literature - conduct of enquiry in a generally accepted form of discourse - acceptance of an underlying set of principles then I will have [...] [Link]

Indeed, almost a month between posts, of listening and reading more than "speaking" (CCK11 on Facebook excepted). There's a lesson there. There's always a lesson somewhere, everywhere ~ up to us to make connections, analyze the information, draw and apply conclusions, taking note but not worrying overmuch when conclusions don't match those of cohorts or even guides. Information, however, should not ramble too far off the reservation. Presumably, we are all working .... [Link]

Le socle commun, ou lorsque les racines sont plus hautes que l’arbre (cck11/5)

Au programme du MOOC sur le connectivisme la semaine dernière, la théorie de la complexité et l’approche systémique. Je me suis dit qu’il allait falloir s’accrocher, qu’avec des noms comme ça, les lectures allaient être vraiment difficiles. C’était vrai. Et encore plus vraie, la difficulté à mettre de l’ordre dans mes idées après ces nouveaux [...] [Link]

Week06: Personal Learning Environments & Networks (#CCK11)
swedinbalchik, Swedinbalchik's Blog » CCK11
Week06 Insights: During the CKK11 Elluminate session from February 25, 2011 George Siemens and Stephen Downes underlined some of the aspects of Personal Learning Environments & Networks. •Key elements of PLE: Self-created environment where the learner manage-share-recall-connect resources (including both information and people). PLE is a model for education that addresses learning in a distributive [...] [Link]

#CCK11I have a problem: my ten year old son, Jordi, hates his teacher. His grades have dropped, he is misbehaving, I have been called a couple of times, and it’s getting worse. My kid, who had been respectful, nice, and a good student, now has changed. But, how did this happen? Here are the facts. Last year Jordi had a wonderful teacher and somehow he thought that he would have him again this year. Didn’t happen. Instead a new teacher came to the school, a “constructivist”. And this is .... [Link]

Learner No agents but content creators? #cck11
jaapsoft2, connectiv
In LeahGrrl’s site for CCK11 We discussed the learner as an agent . On this subject Downes and Siemens seem to have different opinions. ”… In connectivism, a phrase like ‘constructing meaning’ makes no sense. Connections form naturally, through a process of association, and are not ‘constructed’ through some sort of intentional action.” says Stephen Downes. [...] [Link]

"Add this to Google Calender" button for CCK11 events is here, at least
Linn, Jakten på den perfekta lektionen
The world needs more "Add this to Google Calender"-buttons I think. Whenever I see the "Add this to Google Calender" button I get happy. So, I created a button for the next Elluminate Session. If you are using Google Calender you just press the buttton and Save. The event will now add it-self (I hope) to your calender. Automatically it will change the time according to your timezone!! (Please someone, in another timezone, test to see if it works) Is Google open or closed? It is .... [Link]

This blog post relates to my study of CCK11. Sui Fai John Mak had this to say in response to a previous blog post of mine on PLE/PLNs. So would the education system affect how and why PLE or PLN would be applied? How about the learners learning under such education system? What are the [...] [Link]

I would be curious to see how participants in the course respond to this. It should be noted that the purpose of one theory isn't to repair faulty implementations of another theory. So connectivism isn't intended to fix a specific problem in the way constructivism is being applied. That said, we can use this example as a way of highlighting the danger of depending on a single source for teaching and learning. A teacher has an overpowering influence in the developmental life of a child, which renders him particularly vulnerable to a bad teacher. I would respond by attempting to diversify his interests. He needs to become an independent learner (the constructivist teacher is actually right in this, despite providing no help whatsoever in attaining it). I would focus on reading and encouraging out-of-class (and even in-class) reading. It's also important to link up with self-help groups online and offline - are there youth associations, computer clubs, sports teams, .... [Comment]

I agree with this: "As for analytics, numbers / data don't lie but are not always complete (insufficient data), subject to being applied out of context and can be manipulated. Word is that the Gates Foundation has done just that with some of the analytics massaged data used to support Foundation positions on education. Caveat emptor." [Comment]
