What a thrill to watch a play about a book last read 25 years ago, written 25 years before that and that still resonates with the power, the vibrancy, the force of being self amidst the mass that this tale of a lothario amidst the bicycle factory hell brings. On the growing oneness of diversity, that looks more and more like the conformity of the bedroom based philosopher that is the Internet it was great to see a resilient, angry yet optimistic man being unlovely yet fabulous - not in any ... Digital Literacies - The Academy Strikes Back!
shukie, Shukies Web, Jan 23, 2012
It was an excellent weekend spent in the University library that brought home some of the comments from the students in the digital literacies research. Several of the students, all under 25, considered the texts were more accessible when being printed, and read, and that they found greater benefit still when in the company of others in a spoave dedicated to study - the example most often quoted was the library, not the Information Hub, the Learning Resources Centre, or any other ... Chaos Theory and the challenge of a paper that uses blogs #Change11

I think that I have learned the ways of the academy this last month or so, and that developing skills in the HOT way of the academy are strict and hard to fathom at times. I think that in large part my desire to explore how the theories of the natural sciences are resonant in educational theory made the task harder than if I had chosen a more straightforward approach - matching an established learning theory to a study in a learning institution. ... #change11 No such word as Kant

Well, what a conundrum, I feel that I have truly had a revolution, not Copernican but as substantial in its impact - looking at Connectivism, I have had an illuminating journey, and there is no doubt, one that was experiential as much as one based on theoretical reasoning. I found the MOOC an exciting adventure, much of the time, depsite being lost contsantly, and swamped by the requirements of new networks, and forms of connecting, it was 'just ... Hi Mark link to the Mooc is here - http://change.mooc.ca/index.html I think over the last few weeks I have considered the point of you that you describe, and I feel it is changing. the academic community is in fact academic communities - there are peer reviewed journals online and the peer reviewing takes the form of active, real-time, visible discussion - I think it is richer for that, not least because of the visibility of it - the hidden, reified mystery of the journal is less and less ... This is the first posting since joining the Change11 and the I am in a kind of alienated hinterland that has left me lost, in the processes of interaction, and of the network. I have been excited asbout the potenyail for a new theory and spent much of the summer poring over the many voices that discuss connectivism as such. It has been inspirational not becuase I am now happy that a theory exists that explains the clumsy awkward adaptions of other theoretical ... Mon, 19 Sep 2011 17:29:00 +0000 [Comment]

Onward and outward
shukie, Shukies Web, Sept 27, 2011
Learning new ways of placing myself, and locating others, is still my main task. I work in a Higher Education college in the UK on an Education Studies programme - can't deny my own revolutionary tendencies in looking for a radical shift from the institutional model and I have been spending the last few months looking at connectivim thinking it may lie there - although 'there' doesn't really exist, it's rather a recognition of changes in knowledge and learning that ...
