Thanks for this link. I am trying to make better use of Twitter but often the whole posts just seem to consist of #hash tags and @ symbols. This site will hopefully relief some stress and increase capacity to access relevant sites and ideas. Big acknowledge for helping a lost learner!! (Hits Today: 508 Total: 508)

Irenshaw, I wanted to respond to your comment on Twitter #hashtags. Agree, sometimes tweets are more #s and @s than content. To help you follow the stream better in a live Twitter chat like #edchat, using @twittername gives a way to respond directly to another's comment when tweets are flying fast and furiously--that person knows your comment is addressed to them. One #hashtag is always necessary in a live Twitter chat and that is the hashtag for that particular chat...that tag let's everyone follow the chat in real time when they enter #thenameofthislivetwitterchat in the Twitter search field (people using an app like Tweet Deck or HootSuite might be following the chat in a saved search in their app - you can create a column in apps like that to always show you tweets with a particular hashtag, #change11 for instance :D). People use additional hashtags in a tweet to share the comment out to their other communities. I think the live Twitter chats are as much about the community experience, meeting people around shared interests, hearing a diversity of viewpoints on given topics etc. as it is about content exchanged. That's been my experience with #edchat, the first chat listed in the A-Z piece. #edchat inspired me to begin hosting a chat focused on teacher professional development, digital media learning, and open education resources - #connectedpd - for community around the blog of same name, http://connectedpd.posterous.com. #connectedpd is on the A-Z. It's been fun. Learning a lot by doing it. Getting very good at Twitter shorthand...on a good day, it can approach haiku. We archive the chats then using The Archivist. Best, Claudia
