Beyond Rhetoric: Aiming for Resurgence and Resonance in Everyday Practices of Teaching and Learning

Today’s classrooms are hit by a plethora of new ideas and a plenitude of newer objects and other learning devices. Education is everyone’s mandate, and currently on everyone’s agenda from investors to politicians. Individuals, especially teachers and the children they work alongside get lost in the multiplying rhetoric of our times. This loss of self works at three levels- institutional, instructional and personal. How do we begin to design learning for the “expansion of one’s inner self”? What is the nature of resistance one might encounter on the way? What are some ideas or examples that have fostered this recovery? Are these ideas sustainable in the medium to long term or are they just another flash in the landscape of educational endeavours?

I share in this presentation the work of the Project Vision Collective in Bangalore, who have researched and designed learning with these questions and concerns in mind for over a decade. Their findings are conclusive, empirical and create now a broader mandate for disruptive pedagogies that foster both leapfrogging and personal transformation. [Comment]
