Digital Literacies - The Academy Strikes Back!
shukie, Shukies Web
It was an excellent weekend spent in the University library that brought home some of the comments from the students in the digital literacies research. Several of the students, all under 25, considered the texts were more accessible when being printed, and read, and that they found greater benefit still when in the company of others in a spoave dedicated to study - the example most often quoted was the library, not the Information Hub, the Learning Resources Centre, or any other .... onewheeljoe, learn, teach, repeat
A thought that resonated with me from Dave Snowden's live session this week in #change11: If instructors identify the learning outcomes for a course too narrowly, we leave no room for independent thought. Thoughtful instructional design creates a learning environment with room for student exploration and discovery. Snowden experiments with assessment that privileges original thought, and he talked about a course he teaches in which a substantial part of the grade is dependent on .... [Link]

iPad Class Experience part 4
Lars Was, Lars Was
Still no luck with the WiFi connection, but we “managed” to complete our goals of the second lesson with the aid of some netbooks along side the iPads. On monday 1 last ultimate effort to get the iPads working on our school network, keep your fingers crossed! But, where technology let us down, the students [...] [Link]

Death of the teacher #change11
jaapsoft2, connectiv
In his essay (1967) Roland Barthes announces ‘The death of the author”: The meaning of a text is not dependent on the intentions or background of the author. In experimental sciences the author is not important, the experiment is speaking for itself. In a narrative discipline the narration should exist without the narrator. This all [...] [Link]

#change 11 / 12 ibooks
coachcarole, Baranduda Blog
http://edudemic.com/2012/01/ibooks2/ I visited here and realised that the edudemic has begun. Popular educational publishers are now getting the marketing edge by providing books in iBook format for the iPad savvy juniors in schools in Victoria. Now we will definitely need to be ready for a change in the way elearners will expect their reference content [...] [Link]

#Change11 Inquiry in the networks

Based on Dave’s presentation, I was a bit surprised initially by Dave’s views on appreciative inquiry :”Appreciative Inquiry is often unethical and used in inappropriate contexts; it tells people what stories they are allowed to tell. Open space is also like … Continue reading → [Link]

‘Open space rewards consensus and punishes dissent’
jennymackness, Jenny Connected
Dave Snowden made a number of provocative statements in his presentation to Week 17 of ChangeMooc, but 'open space leads to consensus' and 'consensus is rewarded, dissent is punished' were two that caught my attention. As with all such statements, they have to be taken in context. He was arguing that spaces that lead to [...] [Link]

In ‘Psychologische Typen’ C.G.Jung explains his opinions on introversion in more than 400 pages. When we use the label ‘introvert’ we should think of this ideas of Jung. The label is shorthand for a very complicated story about people and their behavior. Jung does ask his readers to be very careful with the types, because [...] [Link]

Cynefin and NGO projects M&E #change11

I can now spell it correctly and have read up.;-) I had an ‘aha’ moment when I realised that the concept of operating in complex environments related to working in conflict and post-disaster areas in NGO capacity. S. Dali - I am reading the words of Dave Snowden who scored many people in posts this week, "Do not give up on formal education, but interact with the 'real world' and read out side your subject."I really enjoyed. My learning style is free, I like to follow the images that appear in my mind. The initial image was of a sculpture of Dali.(old times)During the exhibition, I thought:1 - specialties that divide people in Education,2 - the drawers of our unconscious as .... Thanks for sharing. The concept of actively seeking out dissenting opinions is an idea that caught me when Howard Rheingold said, "If you agree with everyone in your network, you're in an echo chamber." To date, I've only watched a few of Dave Snowden's YouTube videos and had an opportunity to just watch a few minutes of the recorded session. You're post is sending me back to the recorded session [Comment]
