Slow Learning with Clark Quinn
Ben Samuels, EduTechLand
photo by turbulentflow via FlickrThe theme that pops out at me most often in #change11 is the importance of developing the skills of learning.  To a large extent this is nothing new but with accelerating technological change transforming the education landscape it is even more critical to support the development of learning skills.Clark Quinn in #week13 took a very high level approach to thinking about learning.  He tempted us to shed all the constraints we deal with in real .... #Change11 Media Wise
jaapsoft2, connectiv
In the Netherlands ‘mediawijsheid’  (media wisdom) is a subject in schools. In http://softskills.kennisnet.nl/informatie you will find sources (most in Dutch, but some in English) on digital information skills. Teachers should foster critical skills in all lessons and colleges. You should touch this subject of critical skills every day. Use different search engines, Google is not the only [...] [Link] Wed, 04 Jan 2012 08:37:31 +0000 [Comment]

#Change11 Assessment, Active Learning and Project-based Learning
suifaijohnmak, Learner Weblog
Is assessment part of learning and instruction? If we assume that assessment forms an important part of learning, then assessment itself could also be considered a good pedagogy, in formal education and learning environment.  This is evidenced in most formal … Continue reading → [Link] Wed, 04 Jan 2012 00:32:16 +0000 [Comment]

Attention probes caught my attention
George, EdTech - Insights
In Howard Rheingold's #change11 session today, Attention was the first Net Smart literacy covered. And well placed at number 1 it is.As we went through the session, some of his pointers made sense and helped me make better use of the Collaborate session. His point was about multitasking (and I suppose attention-wandering).He described having "attention probes" in a class or lecture situation - devices to ensure that attention is where it should be - for achieving concentration, .... Net Smart for both personal empowerment AND shaping digital culture
George, EdTech - Insights
With over 50 participants, #change11 MOOC started 2012 well with an excellent session with Howard Rheingold. His work on Net Smart is well described and his new book "Net Smart - How to Thrive Online" pulls all this work together. We were treated to an overview and some insights which convinced me that seeking only digital literacy is insufficient - we should be having our students (and teachers) be Net Smart. This would enable not just personal empowerment, an important Rheingold point, but .... [Link] 2012-01-03T16:04:00.000-06:00 [Comment]

DS106 - hmmm...to participate or not?
AK, Multilitteratus Incognitus
The other day I was talking about digital storytelling with some colleagues and I decided to recommend Ds106, the digital storytelling MOOC that ran last year. The material is still all out there, so people could still take it as OER and just self-pace through the material.  Last year I was in a bit of MOOC overload, with LAK11, CCK11, MobiMOOC, eduMOOC and Change that I didn't have much time to add Ds106 to the list (after all, CCK and MobiMOOC were both in Spring, at the same .... Google Stoopid #change11
Andrew Neuendorf, Andrew Neuendorf
In his Week 15 overview, Howard Rheingold warns that we should not believe internet skeptics, such as Nicholas Carr, before “before empirical evidence corroborates them.” Having just finished Carr’s book The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains, I would invite everyone to check out “Chapter 7: The Juggler’s Brain,” which is filled [...] [Link] Tue, 03 Jan 2012 17:00:07 +0000 [Comment]

#CMC11 Is over and I will miss it.
Nellie Deutsch, Passionate about Learning (PaL)
I enjoyed receiving the newsletters that Carol Yeager sent regularly throughout CMC11. The MOOC is over and I will miss it. I love MOOCs because they provide opportunities for free exchange of information and a chance to connect with people.  I have not been as active in the last two MOOCs, #CMC11 and Change11 as [...] [Link] [Comment]

Joining #change11
Ben Samuels, EduTechLand
Photo curtesy Ryan McBride via FlickrOver the last month or so I've been catching up with the materials that have come out of the #change11 mooc so far.  It's been a bit of a whirlwind of topics and presenters but I've found it very interesting and it's been valuable to me as I get acquainted with a field that is new to me in many ways. Thank you to the organizers, the weekly facilitators and all the participants for everything that's been contributed. &.... [Link] 2011-12-30T01:57:00.000-08:00 [Comment]

Educational Simulations
Ben Samuels, EduTechLand
Photo curtesy of Torley via flickrI just finished the two sessions about designing simulations for education and training that Clark Aldrich presented for week 12 of the #change11 mooc.  This topic is almost completely new to me and Clark's expertise and passion provided a great introduction. One of the main points that resonated with me is when he said to "align delivery of content with the importance of content." Clark said this in the context of simulations which ....
