Authentic Learning
Article by Jan Herrington. Authentic learning is not - contrary to popular opinion - performed in the real world in excursions, internships and practicums and the like. It is basically an approach to teaching and learning that is used within a classroom or educational institution. There is no requirement to venture out in the traffic and weather! It is designed to give students opportunities to think and act like professionals but in a learning or training context. Read the full week14 article. December 12, 2011 [Link] [Comment]

The point of using Web2.0 tools in teaching
Lone Guldbrandt Tønnesen, LearningWeb
#Change11 I just read a Danish book by Nina Bonderup Dohn, about how to work use blogs, wikis and social medias in teaching. She is using each of them separately in each subject and analyzing the tool that way. That is very different from a MOOC, where you use all possibilities at Web2.0 at the same time. As I see it, the points of using the Web2.0 must be the access to other students and specialists, which offer an extended view of the subject. The students get access to extended knowledge. .... Ways of learning
Lone Guldbrandt Tønnesen, LearningWeb
I´m am looking very much for hearing Nancy White at #Change11. Mostly because she is having a very different approach for this week. I came to think of how much I have learned as a teacher from all the different approaches to teaching in Change11. What a Wonderful way of learning. And now I look forward for [Link] Wed, 02 Nov 2011 12:23:17 +0000 [Comment]

Source critics and collective learning
Lone Guldbrandt Tønnesen, LearningWeb
#Change11 The collective  learning by Allisson Littlejohn is different from group based learning because you learn in a crowd. And the collective learners use blogs, sms´es and mails, which are not accepted in the academic world (Jaapsoft). That makes it very import to develop a working method, where your (always) evaluate the persons you are in touch with though the usual methods of source critics. I wonder if I can find taxonomy for that – or I shall start developing it my [Link] Fri, 28 Oct 2011 11:30:31 +0000 [Comment]

Something new or a replica?
Lone Guldbrandt Tønnesen, LearningWeb
Just attended Dave Cormiers live session at #Change11. I admire his goal to develop the students beyond the capabilities of the teacher. He wants them to be explorers, which is building on excisting knowledge and evolving from connections between explorers. He has quite rightly seen that the existing educational system on is making replicas (The workers). We encourage them to develop and think for themselves (The nomads) but basicaly we want them to be like us. He doesn´t want them to be like .... [Link] Mon, 07 Nov 2011 12:35:14 +0000 [Comment]

Laissez farie teaching and the Rhizomatic learning
Lone Guldbrandt Tønnesen, LearningWeb
The Rhizomatic learning by Dave Cormier at #Change11 describes very well what is going on learning at the Web. It also describes the “Laissez faire” approach of teaching and learning at the Web. (For the origin of the term “Laissez faire” search for Adam Smith and James Mill) As I see it – The theory describes perfectly what is going on. But how do I use the teory? What for? What can I learn for the teory? I look very much forward to hear that in the week to [Link] Mon, 07 Nov 2011 12:33:36 +0000 [Comment]

Sync in time
Lone Guldbrandt Tønnesen, LearningWeb
Yesterday afternoon I was twitting with a colleague from #Change11 in New York, and we would like to proceed the discussion an online forum. But he was just going to work – and I was just going to end my workingday here in Denmark. That gave me reflections of the essences of Mooc´s. The whole world can attend and there is no problem working asynchronous. I almost never attend live to the sessions because it mostly i during our evening dinner or “tugging our daughter to bed” .... Facts?
Lone Guldbrandt Tønnesen, LearningWeb
I support Dave Cormier from #Change11 in NOT believing in facts. There is a distinction in the discussion at his blog, which I would like to point out. 1. The theoretic/Philosophical way of thinking: Is it a fact that I can see or feel the chair? Is the chair really there? Or is it only electrons – electrons which arre clouds of air at a high speed? Are the electrons then really there? Is the chair then really there? 2. The humanistic way of thinking: Is it possible to find the true fact .... [Link] Tue, 08 Nov 2011 08:32:02 +0000 [Comment]

Collectivism – the new construtivism?
Lone Guldbrandt Tønnesen, LearningWeb
#Change11. Teacher training in Denmark offers fully or partially their programs as E-learning. Often, this e-learning is built around constructivism, which is also called collaborative learning. A renewal of this approach could be connectivism and especially the more specific theory of Collectivism. The constructivist theory is, among other things, that students share their experiences with other students working with course topics and thereby achieve a boost in terms in order to acquirer .... Web-literacy´s?
Lone Guldbrandt Tønnesen, LearningWeb
How to behave? A huge part of my learningprocess during #Change11 is: how to behave? It could be called web-learning-habits, but I think the perfect word is "Web-literacy" I have tried to follow the paths of the facilitators and I been watching others and tried to copy them. But most important – I have gained a lot of knowledge, contacts and wisdom. I have also seen that the new academic approach is not just writing articles. The future academic approach is profiling your selves at the .... [Link] Wed, 09 Nov 2011 12:02:47 +0000 [Comment]

Need a break
AK, Multilitteratus Incognitus
It's been an interesting run for Change11, and we are now at Week 15 with the topic of Authentic learning.   Next week, and the week after next, are break weeks, so no new content, at least from a subject matter expert perspective.  I wonder if the daily mailer will still be coming to our inboxes, or whether that will take a break as well.I think I've reached my natural saturation point with course materials for this course. Readings, both this week's .... [Link] Mon, 12 Dec 2011 22:10:00 +0000 [Comment]

#Change11 Using Games as a Blue Print to learn in COPs, Business and Institution

If Joseph Campbell made a MOOC #change11
Andrew Neuendorf, Andrew Neuendorf
I’ve written previously about MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) design and how it shouldn’t follow the traditional academic structure, not given the potential for a more chaotic, connectivist, or rhizomatic learning style. However, we can’t let our shoots and tubers grow wild forever. Spring is only one-quarter of the year. Let’s keep the chaos, sure, but [...] [Link] Mon, 12 Dec 2011 14:38:02 +0000 [Comment]
