This week we are pleased to welcome Jan Herrington, who is a Professor in Education at Murdoch University in Perth Western Australia. Jan’s work involves research and teaching in the undergraduate and post-graduate programs in the School of Education.

Jan’s current research focuses on the design of effective web-based learning environments for higher education and the use of authentic contexts and tasks as a central focus for web-based delivery of courses (see here). She is also researching other ICT–related areas such as computer games in early childhood, authentic learning in museums, mobile learning (see here) and design-based research. [Comment]

Knowing, Sharing, Knowledge
Ana Cristina Pratas, Crops of Chaos
Sifting through information, knowing, understanding knowledge – all activities which one is constantly engaged in, knowingly or not. Knowing demands understanding; knowledge  reflects on action. Both need a context  - be that of connections, an audience, or a field of action to make sense. Without action, without an audience to share, hoarding facts and figures [...] [Link] Thu, 08 Dec 2011 22:57:41 +0000 [Comment]

Hey, Brain, Let’s Slow Down and Get to Know Each Other #change11
Andrew Neuendorf, Andrew Neuendorf
Clark Quinn’s overview of Slow Learning is a lot more subversive than it appears, but I don’t mean subversive to traditional pedagogy. We tend to associate the word “subversive” with 1960′s radicalism, or as some kind of challenge to the puritan ethics of work and prudence. I sense, however, in Slow Learning a different kind [...] [Link] Sun, 11 Dec 2011 19:33:28 +0000 [Comment]

Falling at the first hurdle - ubiquitous sage on the side not for me
George, EdTech - Insights
This week's topic on Slow Learning for the #change11 MOOC had me fall at the first hurdle. Clark Quinn's introductory post asked the following question: "What would my ideal learning situation be?"He replied by saying it would be having a personal learning mentor with him, prompting support at the right moment and developing him slowly over time. He thus develops the concept of an automatic "sage on the side" to prompt, guide and thus produce learning.Listening to the subsequent live .... [Link] 2011-12-09T16:17:00.001-06:00 [Comment]
