#change11 – ‘Stealth Mentoring’
coachcarole, Baranduda Blog
I am listening to Clark Quinn who is speaking to the gathered Moocers in Change11 via Blackboard Collaborate and creating this blog post at the same time. This is a bit of a ‘change’ for me – trying out my new model of ‘change by stealth’ on myself. Clark asks ‘how do we actually learn’? [...] [Link] Thu, 08 Dec 2011 04:09:40 +0000 [Comment]

Slow Learning or " what would my ideal learning situation be?"
T, lúcidaTranslúcida
A slow learning occurs when we are late or encounter difficulties in solving problems. My plans to write about Dave Cormier still occupy my thoughts. The last week was truly deplorable, consider a slow learner! The first image can be considered a slow learner?(metaphor!)I do not like to learn by obligation, I hate this form of learning.Joining various topics and knowledge is a form of learning.I've been thinking about curriculum, those who know and what could be possibleThe second picture .... #Change11 Becoming and Ontology – Part 2
suifaijohnmak, Learner Weblog
Relating to my previous post and Louise’s and Jim’s comments: @Louise Yes, I see your points -  It'd be extremely hard to translate these skills to short-term measurable, observable learning outcomes. The notion of becoming remains a bit obscure.  That’s why a … Continue reading → [Link] Thu, 08 Dec 2011 00:27:45 +0000 [Comment]

Deep and surface learning
Rob, Really Useful Knowledge
We've been considering issues about deep and surface learning on H812. Good course, H812, but deceptively quick. It's very part time,  takes two years, one assignment every three months or so – it's a doddle, I thought. But the weeks fly past with a new topic each week; blink and you miss one, and at my age I blink a lot. Deep and surface learning attracted a lot of chat, and at least one misconception. There's a very good summary of deep and surface learning at .... [Link] Wed, 07 Dec 2011 17:02:00 +0000 [Comment]

Research Study: Self-regulated learning in massive open online courses
Colin, Learning in the workplace
Massive Open Online Courses are still very new and it is important to conduct research to try to understand how they support different types of learning. At the Caledonian Academy, we are interested in Self-regulated learning outside formal learning contexts and we have designed a study, which aims to surface, describe and systematise the activities [...] [Link] Wed, 07 Dec 2011 15:26:56 +0000 [Comment]

Slow learning in a fast-changing and increasingly unequal world #change11
opendistanceteachingandlearning, opendistanceteachingandlearning
In this week's post on change.mooc.ca, Clark Quin proposes "slow learning" as an alternative and more preferable pedagogical approach in today's world. Quin writes: "Our formal learning approaches too often don't follow how our brains really work." There are a … Continue reading → [Link] Wed, 07 Dec 2011 13:16:07 +0000 [Comment]
