Rhizomatic Learning–why we teach
cbran250, CAB Thoughts
Setup for the Live Presentation: Other commitments prevented me from attending Dave Cormier's Rhizomatic learning live session and the recording on the MOOC site was audio only.  Cormier recommended a Youtube video of a draft version of the session.  Since I wished to observe the slides, this is the version I viewed.  Given that the [...] [Link] Wed, 30 Nov 2011 02:28:43 +0000 [Comment]

Does technology really empower learners to journey beyond just content?
Ashley, I Am One Of Those People!
cc licensed ( BY NC SD ) flickr photo shared by Subspace The other day, I had our parent meeting for next years year seven students who will be entering the 1-1 laptop program here at McDowall State School.  My awesome (I better suck up just in case he ever reads this!) deputy principal stood up and talked a lot about the administration side of the program.  Parents had lots of issues with insurance, bags, transport etc.  Whilst these issues are of vital importance, .... College Degrees and Relevance
AK, Multilitteratus Incognitus
Over the holiday, at some point I came across this blog post asking how much longer will (college) degrees mean something. It was a short, but interesting post, and something that I've thought about in the past; not in reference to how much longer will college degrees have a monopoly on accreditation of individuals, but rather I've been pondering what does a college degree mean. The impetus for this post seem's to be Stanford's AI MOOC, which apparently .... Do you look at the world through a looking-glass of a smartphone, or a computer screen or a television? Is your world view presented to you by powerpoint? Do producers and web masters edit your experiences? Or do you live in the open, do you try to look around and watch the things where they [...] [Link] Tue, 29 Nov 2011 22:16:56 +0000 [Comment]

Discussion about the MOOC design
jupidu, ZML Didaktik / Innovative Learning Scenarios
Jon Dron suggest a reputation management system within the MOOC or some collective-based filtering solutions in his thoughts about the MOOC with the intention to add more structure and to help participants with the „almost unfiltered stream of stuff“ produced via participating in the MOOC. (thanks to Jenny Connected who guided me to this post). [...] [Link] Tue, 29 Nov 2011 21:13:57 +0000 [Comment]

Highlights and Sticky Notes:Teaching presence is much harder to facilitate as learners do not necessarily have contact with the educator, but it is the teaching presence that heightens cognitive presence (Annand, 2011).Tags: pedagogy, abundance, change11, e-learning, technologyby: Allan [Link] Tue, 29 Nov 2011 11:29:36 -0000 [Comment]

My students were born in the XXI century

Great questions and photos! I guess my music is hard - created, recorded and distributed by others through digital platforms that I carry around with me on other hard technologies like an iPod. I'm not one to create new music of my own. Even if I am playing with young family members on a xylophone or keyboard, I tend to play something familiar rather than [Comment]

Thanks, Jaap! Your comment "Abundancy means possibility to dwell and choose, to learn surprising things" is a welcome challenge to the feeling I get from others around me that abundancy means go fast, skim over it [Comment]
