LOL! how can we forget the tecnology..... it's impossible!"...the social technologies underpinning Web 2.0 are fundamentally different in their dynamics.... offer benefits that significantly exceed the promise of their forebears." Jon DronI don't like the word "control" but I appreciate "choices"! Why the impossible happens more often!" However, through assembly, soft technologies can bind together different hard technologies to make an overall system softer. No innate preference .... [Link]

Getting the balance right between soft and hard technologies..
jennymackness, Jenny Connected
... this was the subject of Jon Dron's fascinating talk to ChangeMOOC this week – http://change.mooc.ca/recordings.htm Why was it fascinating? Well – not being a learning technologist, nor any other type of technologist and in many ways somewhat technophobic, it made me rethink how I work with technologies and in particular the relationship between different [...] [Link]

How to evoke more comments on your #change11 blogposts

It is not easy to remain motivated for writing a blog when nobody comments. Why do some blogs get commented and why yours not? In a Mooc most people only read and lurk (of 1600 persons some 50 did engage in publishing in Plenk Mooc. It is like dating you must invest some time and [...] [Link]

Setup for the Live Presentation: Previous commitments did not allow me to take part in the live event, but the recordings were available. Distracting background sounds frequently marred the recording, possibly because the recording was from sounds from speakers rather than directly from the digital stream. Content: This session with David Wiley was more Question [...] [Link]

Bringing the screwdrivers to the elephant party
brainysmurf1234, Connecting the dots
Jon Dron rocked it in the #change11 live session today. The backchannel was lively without being frenetic and the whiteboarding was fun, as always. I came away from the session with a fond memory of my Grade 7 drama teacher, who would have us all sit in a circle and pass one object around while each of [...] [Link]

#change11 Abundance and Rhizome - II

Constraints drive creativity?
jennymackness, Jenny Connected
Reading through the wealth of ideas that Jon Dron has presented us with this week, the idea that constraints drive creativity caught my attention. See this post of Jon's with reference to the quote by Stravinsky – “The more constraints one imposes, the more one frees one's self. ...." This raises the question of constraints [...] [Link]

Dron's balance between hard and soft technologies - seeking the Goldilocks moment
George, EdTech - Insights
Jon Dron presented a very informative session in Week 11's #change11 MOOC.Titled "Soft stuff, hard stuff and invisible elephants", Dron described the following:the meaning of technology the inclusion of pedagogies as technologiesSOFT and HARD technologiesgetting the right balance between themhow to move from soft to hard and vice versaand the elephant in the room - "it ain't just what you do, it's the way that you do it. A bad technology, used well, can work brilliantly, .... [Link]

Reflection on an elephant #change11

Are there any benefits in constraints? If my bass clarinet (which can sound like an elephant) is difficult to play on, I will oil the mechanism, will clean the horn, will adjust things and change reed. These constraints are not useful for creativity. I do have some pieces of music full of constraints, the music [...] [Link]

What Page One Tells us About Education #change11
Andrew Neuendorf, Junct Blog
Page One, the documentary about the writing and editorial staff of the New York Times, is streaming on Netflix, and I recommend watching it if you want a glimpse into the future (or present) of education. Once again, the story is about abundance, as Clay Shirky reminds us early in the film. With so much free journalistic content available online, and the collapse of advertising revenue, newspaper across the country have been biting the dust. The model is no longer sustainable due to threats .... [Link]
